High blood sugar occurs when your body can’t effectively transport sugar from the blood into cells leading to insulin resistance and eventually diabetes. The occurrence of diabetes or pre-diabetes is high in the US but can be helped with a mix of healthy living options including regular exercise, control of carbs, increase fiber, drinking water and limiting stress.  Even damage to your gut bacteria — such as from taking antibiotics — is associated with an increased risk of diabetes.
